Department Overview

The West Bloomfield Police Department is one of the finest police departments in the state of Michigan providing service to the residents of our community 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The mission of the Police Department is to 'Protect and Serve’. This does not apply just to our citizens, but to everyone who visits or works in our beautiful township. The Police Department works with residents and homeowners associations, schools and student groups, and the worship and business communities in order to maintain safety and reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime. But if a crime should occur, the Police Department reacts quickly and works diligently to apprehend the criminals who take advantage of our citizens and exploit the freedoms we enjoy.

Under the leadership and command of Chief of Police Michael Patton, a staff of 80 sworn officers, 16 dispatchers, eight police service aides, and nine civilian personnel carry out the responsibilities of the department.

Our talented men and women reflect the professional and diverse nature of our community. Most of our employees have obtained advanced college degrees and they come from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds.
